You know what really grinds my gears and puzzles me to no end? Tests. I can't really stress enough how much I just do not get the point of tests and quizzes that put unnessary stress upon kids. I understand how it can be one thing to test and assess the ability of students, that these persedures can help teachers to focus on points their students are struggling in; but the question still remains why so many? Even though tests are being used to help students and teachers, but the truth seems to be coming out more as teachers become more and more fustrated when the only goal they want for their studenets is to past a test at the end of the year. Students spend less time on trying to really learn in a classroom, and as I student I know first hand that "65 stay alive" is a notion we all know too well.
Tests speak to many things about a person, how well you understand what your bing tested on, and how well you find the answers. Tests could actually descide your futrure, how you are viewed to other people and what your life would be like. Some people could say "ummm...what, how does just one test say all those things about me?" Well the answer is actually quite clear. If you had to take one test that dictated everything in your life, wouldn't you study your butt off? Honestly whats the difference between that one hypothetical test and many that come constistantly throughout ones life? Although it isn't to say that we must never evaluate our opptions, it is just a cry to ease up on this storm of tests that rain from the sky of Olympus.
We could try to find common ground with some of the ways kids are tested and get back to focusing on learning without all the doom and gloom about furture jobs like flipping burgers. It is allowing kids to really try and digest all of the things they have learned and then letting them apply it as expected of them, but not right away. I'm sure there is many who disagree with me on this topic, and could argue many reasons as to why we should test more and push the future of America to do better. I say however, why not let the future "its self" test us.
